Life wouldn’t be the same without them. Those sweet giggles, their big smiles, hearing them try out new words for the first time, every inch gained and milestone achieved. Being a parent is a blessing indeed.

And a high calling! We love our job but molding little people that will become citizens of the world someday is a BIG deal. But for all the amazing moments being parents is not an easy task. You know those days I’m talking about? Those days where at the end you want nothing to do with anyone or anything? When you been jumped on or yelled at, or been at the beck and call of some little person’s every whim so that all you want to do is curl up in a ball and hide. Just want some peace and quiet. Maybe a massage, or junk food, heck or even a little patience!

A few months ago we wrote a blog about our favorite scriptures we reference and try to live by that has seen us through the hard times of life and especially in marriage.  Today we wanted to share a few of our favorite scriptures that have really encouraged in this beautiful journey of parenthood.

Just as we are not perfect, so much so are our littles are still growing and learning. Some days they will lie, cheat, and downright act ugly. I had never really considered needing to forgive them before but when I examined my heart and realized I was holding little resentments against them these scriptures rang in my mind.

Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Colossians 3:13

Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6

When we are prone to worry lean on the Lord. I’m sure I’m not the only one who is constantly worried for my babes. Their safety, their health, their futures, their happiness. It can be pretty overwhelming…incredibly so. And I often have to reel my busy mind in and remember that God’s got this.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

– Philippians 4:6

It our job to shepherd their little hearts and minds. A high and often tough calling but a beautiful one!

These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.

– Deuteronomy 6:6-7

For whom the Lord loves He reproves, Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.

– Proverbs 3:12

Be patient, kind, & loving when dealing with them.

Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart.

– Colossians 3:21

Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

– 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward.

Psalms 127:3

Being parents is one of the hardest tasks we have ever undertaken. For those especially tough days, remember even when you do everything right – they are still kids. And sometimes all you can do is just stop and be thankful for this crazy beautiful gift of being their parent.
